The uniform code is in place to make pupils, parents and staff aware of the school's expectations regarding school uniform and provide clear procedures to administer this code. The code is intended to encourage pupils to wear Coatbridge High School's "colours", and in doing so, to encourage a positive sense of identity and pride in the school community, maintain security within the school since it is easier to spot intruders to school. The following items of clothing are considered appropriate:
Outdoor jackets and coats should also be taken off in class. Hats should not be worn inside school premises.
The following items of clothing are unacceptable:
Tracksuit tops, jogging tops, hooded tops, tops with logos, t-shirts, sports tops, denim jackets, tracksuit bottoms, trousers with logo, jeans.
In addition to the above unacceptable items, certain items of clothing are "banned" on the grounds that they may provoke a strong reaction or cause offence, eg, football scarves, football tops, items with sectarian associations, items with sexist or racist messages and items with associations to tobacco, alcohol or drugs.
